Mehbooba Mufti’s close political aide and education minister Naeem Akhtar spoke to Aasha Khosa in Srinagar. Excerpts from the interview:
How do you see the current situation in Kashmir?
It is a very sad but familiar turn of situation in Kashmir. We have passed through so many dark tunnels in the past; this time will also pass. But honestly, we had thought this will never get repeated.
Many blame your alliance with the BJP for the current unrest. What is your take?
Our leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had gone for this alliance after much thought. This is the boldest ever political experiment in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. Through this the late Mufti had wanted to end the alienation at all levels. He believed that while we are talking of bringing Jammu and Kashmir closer to the rest of India, we could not achieve it

Continuing his spree of encouraging the youth for cracking the state’s civil services examination, Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar on Friday met the topper of Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) Anjum Bashir Khan Khattak and second rank holder, Aliya Tabassum at their residences.
In a statement Minister said,Learning that the toppers hail from remote areas of Mohra Bachai in border district of Poonch and Chatroo in Kishtwar, and they have set an example for other youth residing in the far-flung areas that hard work and dedication can’t stop the talented youth from coming to the mainstream and satiate their hunger for achieving the best in the World.”
Congratulating the toppers, the Minister asked the youth to follow these young officers who have braved all odds to realize their dreams.
Terming their selection as real empowerment of the people of far-flung areas, the Minister said they can help the government in the better implementation of development plans
