  • W.A.S.P. (aka "Watch As Sinners Play") were part of the horror-shock, or gothic glam metal, scene of Los Angeles. Formed by New York Dolls' drummer Blackie Lawless (now on bass and vocals) and guitarist Chris Holmes. Their debut single, Animal (), was a premonition of their entire career: lots of scandal, but little substance. The songs on WASP (Capitol, ) were not musical events but lewd acts. Wild Child, from The Last Command (), and 95 Nasty, from Inside The Electric Circus () had already lost much of the early bite, and The Headless Children () showed a band with no direction. Holmes quit, and the WASP embarrassed themselves further on Crimson Idol ().

    Rock And Roll To Death was the late anthem from Still Not Black Enough (Castle, ), a solid (if not original) work. Killfuckdie (Castle, ) marked the return of Holmes to the ranks.

At the age of 16 Blackie played with an east coast band called Black Rabbit, tauting his talents around local bars. Another early band was called Orfax Rainbow in which he played for quite a while.
