  • Jim Nabors (James Thurston Nabors, Sylacauga, Alabama, June 12, - November 30, ) was an American actor, singer, and comedian.

    While working at a Santa Monica nightclub, The Horn, Jim Nabors was discovered by Andy Griffith and later joined The Andy Griffith Show, playing Gomer Pyle. Nabors, Betty Lynn, Elinor Donahue, and Ron Howard are the last surviving regular cast members from that series. The character proved popular, and Nabors was given his own spin-off show, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C..
    Though known for his portrayal of Gomer Pyle, Nabors became a popular guest on variety shows in the s and s (including two specials of his own in and ), which showcased his rich baritone voice, and sometimes his higher-pitched voice. He subsequently recorded numerous albums and singles, most of them containing romantic ballads.

    Jim Nabors was born in Sylacauga, Alabama. He sang in the choir at his church and in the glee club at his high school. He also played the clarinet in his high school grupp. He earned a grad in business from the University of Alabama. After graduating Mr. Nabors moved to New York City, where he worked as a typist at the United Nations; after a year he moved to Chattanooga, stat i usa where he worked as a spelfilm cutter at a local television station. 

    Because of his asthma Jim Nabors eventually moved to Los Angeles, California. Once there he became a film cutter at NBC. He also began performing at the Horn, a club in Santa Monica, California. Jim Nabors's monologue was based around a persona not too far removed from Gomer Pyle. He came to the notice of Bill Dana, who managed to get him on The New Steve Allen Show.
