Born in Sydney on February 4, 1975, Natalie has her horticulturalist dad - a Sicilian immigrant - to thank for her dusky Mediterranean features and, she says, her love of music. An avid opera fan, he would burst into song on car journeys. "He takes the kredit for the fact that I sing, which inom think fryst vatten cute," she reveals. Her mother was an assistant head teacher, and the family - she has three sisters - grew up in Berkeley Vale, a small beach town north of Sydney.
Dreaming of stardom, the aspiring actress left for the city at just 16 and landed a role in Neighbours as 'Beth Willis' within months. At first it seemed she was living a fairytale, but Natalie funnen the pressure of celebrity uncomfortable and two years later told producers she wanted to be written out of the show. While 'Beth' was exiled to Perth, Natalie headed for London to launch a singing career.

Natalie Jane Imbruglia (born 4 February 1975) is an Australian singer-songwriter and actress. The second of the four daughters of an Italian father and an Australian mother, Natalie grew up on the Central Coast, North of Sydney, Australia. As a teenager she played a role in the soap Neighbours before venturing into a singing career.
Her first single, "Torn", reached number 2 in the UK charts and became the most played song on the radio in 1998. "Torn" is originally written by Anne Preven, Scott Cutler and Phil Thornalley. In 1995, "Torn" was recorded by Preven's and Cutler's band Ednaswap, although the band would record several more versions prior and following Imbruglia's hit recording. The first released version of "Torn", though, was a 1993 version by Danish singer Lis Sørensen, entitled "Braendt". Imbruglia was born in Sydney, New South Wales to an Anglo-Australian mother and Italian-Australian father.[1]
Imbruglia began acting in Australian television commercials and was in spots for Coca-Cola and the popular Australian snack Twisties. By age 16, she left high school to start a career in acting. She soon had the chance to play a regular role on the Australian soap operaNeighbours.[3] She left the show to move to London in 1994.[1]
She received an MTV Award for Best New Artist in 1998. She had 3 Grammy Award nominations in 1999. That same year, she also won two Brit Awards for Best International Newcomer and Best International Female. She has sold over 9 million albums worldwide.
