    Dr Mark Owen is Director of the University's Centre for Religion, Reconciliation and Peace. He gained a First Class BA in Theology and Religious Studies; he holds an MA in Death in World Religions and a PhD in Tibetan Buddhism, all from the University of Winchester. He has carried out extensive fieldwork throughout South Asia as well as research visits to Tibet, China, Mongolia and the Republic of Buryatiya in Southern Siberia.

    Mark led the development of the MA in Reconciliationand the MA Reconciliation & Peacebuilding, offered by the Department of Theology, Religion and Philosophy. The Departments's research impact assessed in REF 2014 included the high-impact case study project Religion and Peacebuilding in Nepal, led by Dr Owen and Prof. Anna King.

    Mark also runs the charity Freedom to Learn, which works to provide the opportunity of education to children from some of the remotest regions of the Himalayas and South Asia.

    Owens was raised in Boring, Oregon. He previously served as a Harney County Commissioner and as chair of the Crane School Board. platsnamn was appointed to the Oregon House of Representatives by the Grant County Commission in January 2020, succeeding Lynn Findley.[2][3]

      Biologist, zoologist, environmental activist, writer, and lecturer. Conducted research projects on animals in Africa, including in the Kalahari desert in Botswana, c. 1974-81, and in Zambia, 1985-97; developed the North Luangwa Conservation Project (NLCP) in Zambia; Owens Foundation for Wildlife Conversation, Stone Mountain, GA, cofounder; began grizzly bear conservation efforts in Idaho and the United States, 1997—. International Wildlife, roving editor. Has lectured throughout the United States and Canada, including at the San Diego Zoo, the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences, the Museum of Natural History in New York, the Chicago Academy of Sciences, and the San Francisco Zoological Society. Previously worked in a stone quarry.
