    He was born Alfred Cini in South Philadelphia. He worked hard in the family’s construction business, and in the evenings performed at neighborhood clubs and bars. After attaining stardom, Martino was also a longtime resident of Beverly Hills, Calif.

    Jasper Cini was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,[2] to Gasparino (also anglicised as "Jasper"; –) and Carmela M. Cini (née&#;Grilli; –), one of five siblings&#;&#; the others being Pasquale, Rita, Frances and Frank. His father and maternal grandfather were immigrants from Nereto, in the Italian region of Abruzzo.[3][4] He aspired to become a singer, emulating artists such as Al Jolson and Perry Como, and seeing the success of a family friend, Alfredo Cocozza, who had changed his name to Mario Lanza.
